    2024 New Rules

Following a recent National Umpire Committee meeting attended by State Chief Umpires (SCU), the group had decided NOT to implement the full rule book changes that were agreed to in Melbourne prior to the Nationals in Chinchilla. This project will be completed at the back end of 2024 with implementation at the beginning of 2025.
However, the committee identified two (2) changes in relation to both horse welfare & safety that they will be implementing, effective May 2024, in time for the nationals at Chinchilla. These changes are in bold, as the full rule is stated below.

Rule 48 – Removal of Spurs or Whip

Any misuse of spurs or whip will result in the removal by the umpire of the spurs or whip to the player AND HORSE concerned for the remainder of the tournament. If the removal instruction has been violated, then the team will be disqualified from the tournament. The umpire/s must notify the Senior Tournament Umpire and the Horse Welfare Officer.

Rule 57 (e) – Dropped or Broken Racquet

The umpire shall not stop the game for a broken or dropped racquet unless it is the result of an infringement by the opposing team. However, when the ball is dead the umpire shall stop the match and the player be given reasonable time to retrieve/remove the dropped/broken racquet.

It should be noted that 57 (e) is simply a change to the exact wording from the international rule book, as agreed in Melbourne.

If anyone has any questions, please contact your SCU in the first instance, or reach out to a member of the NUC.
    Regards

    Phil Day
